A couple of tips though - if the message in camera preview says it's too bright, try finding a place with indirect sunlight, and if the message says the background is too far, it means you are more than 15 feet from a background, so try standing in front of something. Ever get half way through recording a video and suddenly realise you're missing out on some great photos?
The iPhone X lets you do both at once, so if you want to take some pictures while you're recording, all you need to do is tap the white circle to the left of your record button. With the dual-lens camera on iPhone X, you can now get videos with optical zoom, so there's not excuse not to get that perfect shot.
This is an important one to know about - so you can use it when you need it, but also so that you don't end up calling the emergency services by accident. You can trigger Emergency SOS on iPhone X by pressing and holding the side button and either volume button for 6 seconds to quickly call emergency services.
Optionally, you can also initiate SOS by rapidly clicking the side button five times.
If you're used to using Apple Pay with Touch ID , the new method of paying using your iPhone may take a bit of getting used to, but if you're an Apple Watch user, the action may feel more familiar. To pay in a shop, double-click the power button, then glance at the screen to authenticate with Face ID, and hold your phone to the terminal. You may need to hold you're phone up slightly, as if you are taking a selfie, but Face ID gets better at recognising your face from different angles over time, so you should still be able to do it discreetly.
One you have completed authentication, you have 60 seconds to complete the transaction, otherwise you will be asked to repeat the process. To take a screenshot on the iPhone X, simultaneously press and quickly release the side button and the Volume Up button. The image will appear as a thumbnail in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. If you tap on it, you can crop and edit the screenshot before saving. It's a common misconception that force-quitting apps that are running in the background on your iPhone will free up memory and help to preserve battery life.
It's actually completely unnecessary, as iOS automatically 'freezes' apps that are running in the background, severely limiting what they can do and freeing up the RAM they were using. But sometimes an app crashes, and the only way to get it working again is to force quit and restart the app. To do this, swipe up from the bottom edge and then pause, until the App Switcher appears on the screen. Then scroll through until you find the app you want to close, hard press the app, and then tap the red minus sign.

I'm thinking that maybe you are perhaps remembering differently from what it was and are just now noticing it? Because I'm about to exchange my unit again because of this. I guess I have to check with apple care.
